Weekends Away: The Western Highlands and the Jacobite Train

{photo set}

You guys!  While you are reading this I am in Africa.  But while I am writing this, I am Scotland, approximately a week ago.  Which is a fun commentary on the space-time continuum.  Or maybe just a cool button on Blogger that allows you to schedule posts for specific dates & times.  I leave/left on Monday the 20th (about 24 hours from current now, but way in the past from future now).

Which obviously means that I should be packing.  But I haven't started yet.  Because I've been so distracted with EMS that I haven't gotten my shit together for this trip at all.  I consider it a monumental achievement that I was able to find Malaria medicine at the 11th hour, but a considerable loss that I forgot to seek out a UK-SA travel adaptor.  I might head upstairs in a bit and try to find a few pairs of trousers that will be suitable for this trip.  Or I might have some tea and a nap instead.  Totally living on the edge over here, obvs.

So while most normal people that are preparing to take off on 6,000 mile journey away from home would probably spend the weekend before getting ready, Tim and I decided to run off to the Western Highlands instead.  Because why not?  We started in Fort William to hop a ride on the Jacobite Steam Engine.  And as all true Harry Potter fans will tell you (my husband included among them), this is the train that they used in a few of the films.  I am not sure which ones, and am too tired to fire up the Google machine, but feel free to let me know in the comments below.  The train stopped for lunch in Mallaig, which was an adorable fishing village on the West Coast.

In another time I might wax eloquent about how beautiful it all was, or about how the ONE rule on the train was to please not stick your head out the window and that Tim properly ignored that request the entire time, or about the adorable coffee shop we found this morning, but I am not even sure what time line we're on in this post.  And I should probably go find my passport.

Love & Time Paradigms,
Sabrina
